Who we are:
The Vintage Radio Programmes Collectors’ Circle is a fully interactive group of collectors of radio programmes who wish to be able both to contact others with similar interests and to swap material for private enjoyment and for research. In addition, it aims to locate “missing, believed wiped” programmes which the BBC has been unable to retain.
Who it is for:
The search for “new” collectors has, to some extent, started to reduce the risk of the inadvertent destruction of collections, often carefully built up over many years, when an individual’s estate was dealt with. This aspect of the Circle’s activities is now of prime importance, for it is highly likely that recordings of programmes which were transmitted many years ago are still gathering dust in attics and lumber rooms, and await discovery.
The VRPCC caters for the individual collector of, principally, spoken word radio output (with a focus on drama in all its forms) and, to a lesser extent, music broadcasts, principally from the UK, with some material from other countries such as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
What we do (and don’t):
- The Circle has only one written rule - no member may derive any personal financial benefit from recordings he/she may possess or may subsequently obtain from any source.
- It does not maintain a Lending Library.
- High-quality material obtained from collectors has been offered to the BBC, where it is known that this is not in its Archives.
- The VRPCC’s policy is not to supply material on request to anyone who asks for it, although individual members are free to decide if they wish to exchange both with other members and non-members.
Membership:
Members are currently offered access to the restricted part of this website, which contains an interactive forum, new and back numbers of the circle newsletter, along with assorted programme logs and other ‘printed’ information.
